You can also lure the shark towards you by swimming, then hop back on to the platform to stab him. I've done this a lot to farm for food, 1 hour and I already had a chestful of shark meat.
I would hope that this game, when finished, could be multiplayer. Then you could have a whole Swiss Family Robinson, except on a boat and not a deserted island with amazing tree forts.
